Character Council

Character Council Applications are now available in the front office.  Interested students should apply no later than November 24th.  Selected student representatives will collaborate to create, plan, and implement character education activities through out the school.  Character Council members will meet once or twice a month during their lunch and recess time.  They will also be responsible for reporting information back to their homeroom class and bringing ideas to our group.  I hope you will consider applying for this great leadership opportunity.

Red Ribbon Week 2014

What a great Red Ribbon Week at the FGC!  On Monday, we had Red Ribbon Spirit Day (Wear Red), Tuesday we had "Don't Get Mixed Up in Drugs" with our Mix it Up Day at Lunch too.  Students were assigned to a table and did an activity centering around healthy choices for their bodies.  On Wednesday we had "Be on a Drug Free Team", Thursday was "Dream of Drug Free World" and Friday was "Say Boo to Drugs".  We had fantastic student participation all week long and will have guidance lessons over the next month focusing on healthy decision making.  Here are a few pictures of Red Ribbon Week.  I wish everyone has a warm, safe, and healthy Halloween.

Due Time for a Cure Day

FGC was "pinked out" today for Due Time for a Cure.  Students have been busy making screen print shirts and cards of encouragement for Cancer patients at Siteman.  During the month of October, students have been purchasing t-shirts, bracelets, wrist bands and pink mustaches with all proceeds going to Siteman.  All of this was made possible by our amazing art teacher Emily Taylor.  What a great service learning opportunity for all of our students.

First Week of School

We had a fantastic first week of school at the FGC!  I had the pleasure of meeting all of our new "Dragons" during skills block the first two days of school.  We did an activity surrounding diversity and being open and respectful to everyone.  The lesson ended with a Pictionary relay race.  I also enjoyed meeting our "New to Ladue" students at lunch on Friday.  We are looking forward to "Roars Week" this week where we will be concentrating on our school wide expectations, "Respectful, Open-Minded, Achieving, Responsible, and Safe."

FGC Welcomes Conway 4th Graders

This morning, FGC welcomed Conway Elementary 4th Graders to the FGC.  Fourth graders were greeted at the door by our Character Council Members before students found their fifth grade buddy class (Team Fire and Mr. Hagan).  Fourth graders had a personalized tour of our building and got to do an activity together.  We are looking forward to hosting Old Bonhomme, Reed, and Spoede later in the week.  We are proud that our fifth graders have a tremendous amount of ownership in our building and were able to be our "experts" as they shared with the incoming class all of the amazing things that make FGC a great place to be.

Spring Updates

Spring has officially sprung and we are definitely all enjoying these warmer temperatures!  Here at the FGC, we have recently held Ability Awareness Day and had another great round of Career Cafe.  On Thursday, we hosted Dr. Anu French (a pediatrician) and Michelle Spirn (an attorney).  Our kids always enjoy our speakers!  We have also been busy preparing for our fifth graders to transition to Ladue Middle School while at the same time preparing activities for current fourth graders to come to FGC next year.  It is hard to believe there are only four weeks of school left!  This year has flown by (even more so than most).  This has truly been a great first year!

Results from "Fill the Bus"

FGC had a great first year of Fill the Bus.  As a school, we collected 1, 293 food items.  Mrs. Monahan's class brought in the most (278 items) and had the honor of helping to load the bus.  As a district, we "filled the bus" with 9, 274 items through out the day.  All of those items are staying right here in St. Louis and have been donated to Jewish Family and Operation Food Search.  Thank you to everyone in the community for your efforts in supporting this worthwhile service project.

Fill that Bus Starts Today!!

Fill that Bus (an Annual District-Wide Character Education Event), begins today March 5th.  Students are encouraged to bring in canned food/non-perishable food items from today through the 12th.  All items will be stored in homeroom classes until the bus arrives the morning of the 12th to collect and take to area food pantries.  Any student that brings in a can on Friday is allowed to wear a "cap". Thanks for your support FGC!

Career Cafe Updates

Another great day of Career Cafe.  During the month of February, we have hosted a school psychologist, a former Blues Hockey Player (currently the Director of Alumni for the St. Louis Blues), a professional cake decorater and a pharmacist.  The students are absolutely loving the opportunity to learn more about careers during their lunch.  We still have many great speakers to come including a doctor, a fire fighter, an emergency room nurse, a glass artist/professor, an attorney, and more.  Thank you to all of our fantastic speakers!
