Career Cafe Speaker Request
We have had a great response for Career Cafe so far this year...but are looking for a few more speakers to share their career and their educational journey with our students. If you are interested, please fill out the form that was sent home last week and return to the counseling office or email me at abalsavias@ladueschools.net. Our students love hearing about future career opportunities from experts in the field. Thank you! -Ms. Amy

Celebrating "Dr". Helm
This week at the FGC, we have been celebrating our amazing principal, Dr. Helm. We surprised her with an assembly on Monday to congratulate her on receiving her doctorate degree last weekend. We had special guests including Dr. Helm's family, Dr. Jahnke, and former co-workers and friends. All students in our building wrote Dr. Helm a congratulatory note and one student from each team was selected to read their letter and present Dr. Helm with a gift. We are so very lucky to have Dr. Helm as our building principal. Her passion for doing what is best for kids is above reproach. Congratulations Dr. Helm!

Fall at the FGC
As we near Thanksgiving, I want to take just a moment to say how grateful I am to work at such an amazing school. Our students, families, and staff are amongst the greatest I have ever had the privilege to work with. I feel extremely thankful to be a part of the FGC family. Today, I am sharing a few pictures from our Red Ribbon Week celebration and our "Penny Wars" from last week which collected money for Operation Food Search.

"Florida Day" at the Fifth Grade Center
On Friday, we hosted "Florida Day" to support a school affected by Hurricane Irma. Our FGC Community raised $883.51 that will go directly towards purchasing school supplies for our adopted school. Look for an upcoming "Puerto Rico Day" soon (Hosted by Dragon Council Students) that will help raise funds by those recently affected by Hurricane Maria. Together, we can make a difference. Way to go Dragons!

"Texas Day" at the Fifth Grade Center
In support of victims of Hurricane Harvey, the FGC hosted "Texas Day" today (next Friday, we will host a "Florida Day"). Many students dressed in their cowboy/cowgirl best or favorite Texas sports team wear. Our Fifth Grade students and staff raised $765! Students will get to vote soon on supplies to purchase to help a public elementary school in Houston get up and running again with some supplies following the devastating hurricane. We will also be writing students letters of encouragement and sending some pictures of our school (in addition to purchasing supplies). Way to show the love for Texas today FGC!

"Open Lunch" Mondays with the Counselor
Today was our first official day of "Open Lunch" with the counselor. Each Monday (during all four lunch periods), eight students may choose to come to the counselor's office to participate in some fun getting to know you games with their peers. Today, we had a magnetic dart board competition and played "Would You Rather?" I look forward to getting to know students better through these types of opportunities.
